Ingredients
1cupsugarYou can use white sugar, brown sugar, demerara and more
1cupwater
Instructions
Add water and sugar to a small saucepan on medium-high heat.
Bring the sugar solution to a boil stirring occasionally to dissolve the sugar.
Turn off the heat and let the sugar solution cool.
Once cooled, pour the simple syrup into a glass jar with a lid.
Store in the refrigerator for up to a month.
Notes
This recipe makes a basic simple syrup of 1 part sugar and 1 part water. The flavour and colour of your simple syrup will be dependant on the type of sugar you use.If you want to flavour your simple syrup you can add spices or herbs to the saucepan, and let them sit and steep in the liquid while it cools. Alternatively you can add an extract like vanilla or almond when you remove it from the heat.To make a rich, thicker simple syrup you can use 2 parts sugar to 1 part water.
